Permeable paver driveways have gained popularity not just because they look great but because they are the best choice for protecting the environment. The key to this type of driveway is that it allows water to drain down through the gaps as opposed to running off into the storm drains. Storm runoff can carry with it all types of contaminants and chemicals directly into our watersheds including streams, rivers, and eventually our precious Chesapeake bay. Many building jurisdictions have requirements set in place for larger driveways that make permeable paver driveways a requirement. For more information on permeable pavers check out the Fairfax Stormwater Fact Sheet provided by the county of Fairfax website.
